Tim and Charletta's Wedding

Married Life

We are doing well through all the significant transitions of the past few months. There are times when we feel overwhelmed. It is apparent that Mother Sylvia's prediction has come true: that sometime after settling down, after all the rush of the wedding and honeymoon, we'd wake up and realize all we'd been through. It's amazing how much work there is to do in starting out in a new city from scratch. But we feel like real partners in sharing the load of making it all happen.

Highlight from Message: Charletta discovered that she loves Tim more than sushi, and Tim discovered he loves Charletta more than reading and/or editing the free online encyclopedia called Wikipedia… you do love Charletta more then Wikipedia right?... And we are to celebrate and rejoice in that realization.

Litany of Resistance

As a prelude to our vows, we expressed our commitments to active peacemaking through an excerpt from the CPT Litany of Resistance. Another couple, Justin Alexander and Jenny Elliot, CPTers and friends of ours from England, led us in the litany. Tim led them in the same litany for their own commitment ceremonies in the US and UK this year.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
I choose to love you

I dream of our relationship as
a seed of community
a source of strength to serve
as Jesus did

I will live in reconciliation with you
in struggle and joy
in wealth and poverty
in sickness and health
to love and cherish all my life

I trust you and give myself to you alone
as an intimate partner
as we seek to live out God's vision of shalom
in our home and in the world

This poem was written and performed by Jacob and Aaron Liechty and performed by them at our wedding ceremony. It is based on a passage from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. The passage is included at the end of this poem for reference. The passages in parenthesis signify a switch to the other reader, except for the list of trees, which were read simultaneously.

We had a blessing and party with our British community on the 2nd of July. It was an opportunity to mark the meaningful relationships we've had in London as we've developed commitments as a couple. Read more about the celebration and see the talent show video below.
